Goats *et cetera
Goats *et cetera is a collaborative exhibition, held at INTOTO Gallery, Cyprus in 2019. The work presented with three other Artists was created after collective conversations and reflections of time spent in the pasture together making art.
In the summer of 2019, Nicoletta participated in an experimental ceramics workshop in the village of Androlikou, Cyprus, a place that nowadays is inhabited mainly by goats. Ceramic artist Vassos Demetriou has been hosting this workshop for the past seven years and it is an exploration into the ancient techniques of wood-kiln and pit firings, utilizing the region’s rich red earthenware clay.
For the first time, Nicoletta immersed herself in working and experimenting with natural materials. With a limited supply of local clay and limited space in the kiln, she made a collection of miniature vases using the "throwing off the hump" technique. These pieces were subsequently fired in a small wood kiln that we built on-site. The impurities in the clay and the ashes from the wood, leave marks on the surface. Clay has this porous texture and the flames give them a toasty colour, creating an interesting warmth when you hold them.
