Nicoletta Savvidou is a Cypriot-born, London-based artist whose practice encompasses both functional objects and experimental works with clay, glass and glaze. Her work investigates and explores ways to highlight the complexities and qualities of the world around us that go unnoticed or sometimes taken for granted.

The materials are the protagonists in her work, and she is deeply guided by the choices of materials and the processes she follows. Her practice is iterative, where ideas are explored through the study of material experiments of different combinations of clay, glass and glaze as well as through drawings and the creation of small-scale objects. She believes it is important to allow things to simply be as they are, that way you capture the way relationships unfold—unpredictable and beyond control.

She creates a dialogue with the materials, exploring her emotional connection to them, allowing space for multiple interpretations and outcomes, whist at the same time preserving their inherent qualities.
